Having a feminist sister—who I love—has turned me into the kind of man that is sensitive to gender issues; which, to some extent, has made me embrace some of the feminist ideologues within American writers. In particular I like Bell Hooks. She makes very good points in relation to female problems with other social issues like race and power hierarchy. Needless to say, I don’t think we have reached equality amongst men and women, but we at least to some extent had come a long way from the times when the only thing women could aspire to was complying with their corresponding social roles, from the well-educated society ladies to the highly oppressed poor housewives who were also subjugated workers.

Hoy hace cuarenta años llegó la humanidad a la luna y se alcanzó el máximo hito de la ciencia o alternativamente “A small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind”. El problema que nos presenta esa simple afirmación es que si bien fue grandioso, en realidad no provocó ese salto humano hacia una época de vida espacial. Por cercano que nos hagan sentir los films de ciencia ficción con la vida en el espacio, lo cierto es que ninguna de las personas que va a leer este artículo llegarán jamás al espacio y es por eso que cuarenta años después tenemos que recordarle a la gente lo maravilloso del hecho y no es simplemente el hecho más venerado en nuestro día a día.
